Hi there!

I’m Kristin, the owner, baker, and creative behind Biker Chic Cupcakes, located in West Des Moines, Iowa.

My story probably isn’t what you’d expect. I didn’t take the traditional path into becoming a baker or creative entrepreneur. My professional background is actually in healthcare. I spent several years in pharmaceutical sales and healthcare administration, earning my master’s degree in Health Care Administration from Des Moines University along the way.

Then 2020 happened.

Like so many others, I found myself unexpectedly laid off for a few months during the pandemic. With more time on my hands than I knew what to do with, I started baking and decorating. Somewhere between the flour, royal icing, and countless hours spent teaching myself new techniques, something clicked.

What began as a side hustle grew into a full-time business, and for several years Biker Chic Cupcakes became my full-time career.

Today, life has come full circle a bit. I’ve returned to healthcare and now work full time in the mental health field, while continuing to run Biker Chic Cupcakes as my creative side business. And truthfully, I love having both. One side of my life lets me work with people and make an impact in healthcare, while the other gives me the creative outlet I never knew I needed until I found it.

I specialize in custom sugar cookies, cupcakes, and cakes, all homemade and created specifically for the occasion. Every order is made from scratch and thoughtfully designed, whether it’s for a wedding, baby shower, birthday, corporate event, holiday, or simply a reason to make someone’s day a little sweeter.

Biker Chic Cupcakes may no longer be my full-time job, but I’m every bit as invested in the work I create. Because I take on a limited number of orders, I’m able to be selective about my schedule and give each project the time and attention it deserves.

When I’m not working or creating in the studio, you can usually find me riding my motorcycles, traveling somewhere new or returning to places I love, going to concerts, cheering on the KC Chiefs, or blasting hard rock music with the windows down, weather permitting, of course. And during an all-day baking and decorating marathon, there’s a pretty good chance that same music is cranked up in the studio.

Biker Chic Cupcakes started during a completely unexpected chapter of my life, and somehow became an important part of my story.

Getting to create something that becomes part of yours is still one of my favorite things about it.
